Summertime…and The Livin’s Easy

I love summertime! I love that the kids can play outside all day into the night, and when nightfalls at 9pm, I call them in. They take baths and go to sleep. Jeremy and I sat outside again for an hour or so. We watered the lawn and the doggies come out with us. They are such good dogs too, because they just stay in the yard and hang out with us. They like to roll around in the grass and chase each other and play. The temps are lovely, the grass is lovely. The kids playing with the neighborhood kids. It’s just nice…and is so different from apartment living where I was afraid of creepy people who live in apartments. So they would stay in a lot. Plus we live in the 5th safest city in California.

One of Sheldyn’s friends was inside playing, and the Mom came over. She said “You just let your kids play outside alone?” I said “Yes.” Then she said “Aren’t you afraid?”

Uh no. Why should I be? The kids play outside in the front yard at the house directly across the street and the one next to it. I can hear them while I sit in the living room, and I always keep my door open. Plus, I get up and check on them periodically…and they are coming in and out all day. At first I was a little scared, but over time, I’m not scared at all. Plus, I think it’s different then just sending my 6 year old daughter outside alone. She’s with her big brother, and they play with kids who are from 4-8, so it’s not like my little girl is out there playing with a bunch of older kids who are roaming the neighborhood.
